The Philippine Tax Academy (PTA) was established and operates in accordance with Republic Act (RA) No. 10143, functioning as a specialized training institution and the educational division of the Department of Finance (DOF) responsible for training all tax collectors and administrators nationwide. PTA’s core mission is to educate, shape, enhance, and cultivate the skills of its stakeholders, aiming to boost tax collection efficiency, elevate national revenue, and cultivate proficient and efficient public servants dedicated to advancing public services for national progress.
Comprising three institutes, PTA is tasked with building the capacities of employees from the three bureaus under the Department of Finance, namely the Internal Revenue Institute (IRI) for the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), Customs Institute (CI) for the Bureau of Customs (BOC), and Local Government Finance Institute (LGFI) for the Bureau of Local Government Finance (BLGF) and local treasurers across the nation.
Since its inception in 2019, PTA has successfully trained over 16,000 learners through both in-person and online training modalities. Noteworthy achievements include PTA’s accreditation in 2023 by the Philippine Regulation Commission (PRC) as a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) training provider for the Accountancy and Customs Broker professions.
As PTA continues to evolve and broaden its mandate, the academy is actively exploring opportunities to extend its services to meet the needs of other DOF-affiliated agencies such as the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) and the National Tax Research Center (NTRC) by enhancing and fostering the competencies of their workforce.
